I find that as much as we care about the latest fashions, trends, colours and shapes of various garments we must not forget the basics such as comfort, quality and health. From a very young age I remember my mother being a huge fan of linen clothing. She owned a huge array of linen clothing from shirts, pants and Indian outfits. I could never quite understand her fascination with this material. It was simply her go to fabric!
So this is going to sound as a bit of a cliche but linen is now my absolute go to fabric! Whenever I wear a linen dress I find that I’m neither to hot nor too cold. This is because the weave of linen fibres allows for airflow which keeps clothing away from the skin. As linen is anti-cling and anti-static the fabric billows out away from the body to dry out any moisture and become cool again.
Another advantage of wearing linen for someone like me is its anti allergic properties. I have extremely sensitive dry skin and am prone to reactions. My youngest son has also inherited this lovely gene from me and has discovered the comfort of wearing linen shirts. Clothing made from linen is ideal for people with allergies and eczema. As linen is made from fibres found in the flax plant it is also known to be one of the strongest fibres around.
Linen also ages really well. It is a hard wearing fabric known for its strength which is higher than cotton. As linen is washed or dry cleaned I find it becomes softer and more pleasant to the touch.
